Rainbow Cone Strikes Sweet Deal to Make Its Debut in California

May 03, 2024 // Franchising.com // LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - Residents of Southern California will soon be introduced to Chicago’s favorite ice cream as the Buona Companies announced today that The Original Rainbow Cone (Rainbow Cone) has signed a new multi-unit agreement with local super-mom turned entrepreneur, Anne Hsiung. The accomplished businesswoman and her family plan to develop three locations throughout several communities spanning the coast of Southern California.

Anne was first introduced to Rainbow Cone during her childhood in Chicagoland, with fond memories of trying the iconic ice cream cone for the first time at the Taste of Chicago and has been a fan ever since. Before moving to California to raise her family, Anne worked as a charge nurse in labor and delivery at Northwestern Medicine Prentice Women’s Hospital, where she met her husband, a pediatric anesthesiologist there at the time.

“My husband and I have always dreamed of opening a family business of our own and passing that legacy on to our children and their children’s children,” said Anne. “When we heard that my favorite childhood ice cream shop was looking to expand outside of Chicago, we knew we needed to bring this delicious, nostalgia-inducing experience to families and visitors in Southern California.”

“After sharing our desire to bring Rainbow Cone’s unique offerings to more communities across the country, we’ve seen many former Chicagoans reach out about bringing the brand to their new homes,” said Joe Buonavolanto III, Executive Vice President of The Buona Companies, the parent company of Rainbow Cone. “We are ecstatic to introduce the five-flavor ice cream cone to the Golden State alongside Anne and her family. Anne is the first to set her sights on bringing the brand to Southern California, but our team is still searching for other accomplished partners to help us bring the brand to other parts of the country.”

Rainbow Cone is a part of The Buona Companies alongside another Chicagoland staple, Buona.

Rainbow Cone is home to the sliced creation comprised of stacked slices of chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (Vanilla with cherries and walnuts), pistachio, and orange sherbet. The Southern California locations will also feature a variety of additional ice cream flavors, sundaes, ice cream cakes and more.
